The University of the Philippines (UP)
Cebu librarians, headed by Mylah Pedrano, plan to hold orientations for
UP Cebu students which will focus on how to make use of its newly subscribed
EBSCO services.
Early this year, the UP Cebu library
started negotiating with EBSCO, a publishing company which provides online
full-text databases via EBSCO host to libraries. Just this month of September,
the UP Cebu library subscribed to its services which will last for a year.
“EBSCO would really be a great help for
our library users, not just for students but also for teachers. We want to
teach them, especially the students on how to use it because it would not be as
easy as flipping a book,” Pedrano said.
Pedrano added that there are still no
fixed dates for the planned orientations, but right after settling final
financial agreements with EBSCO, UP Cebu library will announce more information
about the services EBSCO will provide for the students, as well as the dates
for the orientations.
UP Mass Communication student, Mary Claire
Catado, said that she is glad that UP Cebu library subscribed to EBSCO.
“EBSCO will make it easier for students
like me to access more references for my school researches and projects. It’s
good that they are planning to give us orientation about it,” Catado said.
No library fee increase
will be imposed to students in line with the subscription.
